Here’s a fun fact that might blow your mind: Daryl Dixon is not in the comics. Seriously. The show creators made him up entirely because actor Norman Reedus had so much chemistry with the cast. So, in the original source material, there’s no guide for his survival. He’s a wildcard.
That actually makes him more dangerous. Without comic-book plot armor, the writers can do whatever they want. They could kill him tomorrow, and comic fans wouldn’t be able to say, “But in the book, he lives!” It’s a terrifying freedom for them, and a constant source of anxiety for us.
Does Daryl Die In 'The Walking Dead'? He Still Has A War To Fight
Will He Die in ‘Dead City’ or Future Shows?
Now, with the Daryl Dixon show continuing, and the spin-off Dead City featuring other characters, the threat is real. The network loves crossovers. They might decide Daryl’s story ends in a heroic sacrifice to save his new French friends. (Ugh, don’t even think about it.)
But let’s look at the business side for a second. Norman Reedus is the face of the franchise now. He’s the highest-paid actor on these shows. Killing him would be like killing the golden goose. So, for the foreseeable future, he’s safe. But “safe” in a zombie show means “probably still breathing at the end of the episode.”
