So, what makes bugs attracted to certain smells in the first place? It all comes down to pheromones, which are like chemical messengers that insects use to communicate with each other. And, believe it or not, peppermint oil contains some of these pheromones, which might explain why some bugs are drawn to it.
But, here's the thing, peppermint oil is not a bug attractant in the classical sense. In fact, some studies have shown that peppermint oil can actually repel certain types of insects, like ants and spiders. So, if you're looking for a natural way to keep bugs away, peppermint oil might not be the worst idea.
Now, I know what you're thinking, "What about all the horror stories about peppermint oil attracting swarms of bugs?"
