Pelican’s main gig is their salt-free system. They use a process called template-assisted crystallization (TAC). That’s a fancy way of saying they turn hard minerals into harmless crystals that float by your pipes.
This is great if you hate drinking salty water. Or if you’re a plant murderer like me who forgets to buy a separate tap for the garden. No salt means your succulents won’t throw a fit.
But here’s the thing. Salt-free does not equal water softening. It’s more like water conditioning. Your soap might still struggle a bit. Don’t expect that slippery, spa-like feeling you get from a traditional salt-based softener.
The Real Trade-Off
If you have extreme hard water (like, say, 15+ grains per gallon), Pelican might not cut it. It’s like using a hand fan in a hurricane. It helps, but you’re still going to get wet.
For moderate hard water? It’s a champ. It prevents scale buildup. Your kettle will thank you. Your showerheads will stop looking like they have a mineral disease.
