Look at the skin. A sweet potato should be a vibrant orange, brown, or purple. But if you see green patches? That’s a red flag. Green means the potato produced solanine—a natural toxin. It’s the same stuff that makes green potatoes dangerous. Solanine can make your stomach do a flip-flop. Not the fun kind.
Also watch for black spots or dark, wrinkled areas. That’s often mold or rot. Cut away a tiny spot if it’s isolated, but if the potato looks like it lost a fight with a lava lamp? Bin it. Your taste buds will thank you.
