Here is my unscientific rule of thumb: take whatever the receptionist says and add 15 to 30 minutes to it. If they say “about an hour,” bring a podcast, wear comfortable pants, and maybe don’t chug a giant coffee right before. Because once you’re in that chair, there is no escape—only the sound of the drill and your own existential questions about time.
So how long are dentist appointments? Long enough to make you appreciate sitting in complete silence later. But also short enough that you’ll go back in six months, because you’re a responsible adult. Or because your mom will text you reminders. Either way, you’re not alone. Now go floss. Just in case.
