Let’s talk about perceived time. A 20-minute driving test can feel like three hours when you’re gripping the wheel. Your brain is running at 110% speed, processing every pedestrian, stop sign, and squirrel.
Conversely, a 40-minute test can fly by if you’re in the zone and actually enjoying the drive (it happens, I swear). The key is to breathe. Deep breaths make time feel slower and your hands less sweaty.

Fun fact: the average driving test lasts about the same time as an episode of The Office. So just pretend you’re being evaluated by Michael Scott, and suddenly the stakes feel way lower. “That’s what she said” applied to parallel parking? Maybe don’t say that.
The After-Party: A Quick Reality Check
Once you pull back into the parking lot, the examiner will take 2 to 5 minutes to add up your points. They’re not doing long division; it’s just a checklist. That wait feels like an eternity, though.
Then comes the verdict. If you pass, you’ll get a temporary piece of paper and a grin that lasts a week. If you fail, you get a “better luck next time” and a shorter test next round (usually).
Either way, the whole shebang—from parking to paperwork—is done in under 90 minutes. That’s less time than a bad movie. And you get a license (or a learning experience) out of it.
