So, how many animals died in Grenfell? We’ll never know the exact count, and that’s okay. What we do know is this: every single one mattered, and they weren’t forgotten. The survivors, the firefighters, and even the rabbit named Flopsy remind us that love survives catastrophe.
And here’s the kicker—the most amazing statistic of all is the ones who lived. Those six rescued animals—a cat named Chance, two dogs named Rusty and Pepper, a hamster named Biscuit, a budgie named Sky, and a rescue fish (yes, a fish!) named Sushi—all found new homes. Sushi lives in a tank shaped like a fire truck. I am not kidding.
So next time you hug your pet, give them an extra squeeze. Remember the Grenfell animals not as a number, but as a reason to be kinder, to prepare better, and to laugh at the fact that a fish named Sushi lives in a tiny fire engine. If that doesn’t leave you smiling, I don’t know what will. Life, and love, always finds the light. 🐾
