Let’s start with the obvious: McFly. The band he co-founded in 2003 was like a musical tsunami for teenagers. They sold millions of records, toured the world, and filled arenas with screaming fans.
Picture yourself at a McFly concert. Think of the energy, the lighters (or phones now), the feeling that you’re part of something huge. That feeling was worth money, and a lot of it went straight into Tom’s pocket. Even today, with reunion tours and new music, that machine keeps churning out cash.
We’ve all had that moment at work where we think, “I should have started a boy band.” Tom Fletcher is the living proof that it is a viable retirement plan. He’s basically been paid to be the coolest guy in the room since he was a teenager.
The Busted Side-Hustle (No, Really)
But wait, there’s more. Tom didn’t just stop at McFly. He also writes songs for other people. You know that massive hit “Year 3000” by Busted? Yeah, that was co-written by Tom.
Imagine sitting in a café, scribbling a silly line about a future where your great-great-great-granddaughter is doing fine. Then, a decade later, you get a cheque in the mail from a radio station that still plays it. That’s passive income, but on steroids.

He’s also penned tunes for One Direction. Yes, the very boy band that made your cousin cry in 2012. Every time “Little Things” plays on the supermarket radio, Tom gets a little ping in his royalties. It’s like finding a fiver in an old jacket, but it’s a fiver that happens every week.
