Here’s where it gets hilarious: Calvin Harris openly hates paying taxes. In 2012, he renounced his UK tax residency and moved to Los Angeles. Why? The UK was taxing him at a punishing 50% rate. (Can you blame him? That’s basically giving away half your “Summer” royalties.)
He once told a journalist, “I don’t want to be a tax exile. But I’m not going to work my arse off and have it taken away.” And that move saved him tens of millions. He’s now back in the UK, but his financial team is clearly world-class.
So, is he worth it? Absolutely. The guy turned a bunch of synths and a 8th-grade math level understanding of harmonic progressions into a global empire. He doesn’t have to work another day in his life, but he keeps making hits because… why wouldn’t you?
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go listen to “Feels” on repeat and imagine what it’s like to have $300 million while I eat instant noodles. Cheers, Calvin.
