I hear you. Some kids act like water is poison. If that’s your kid, don’t panic. You can sneak in hydration through food.
Watermelon is basically nature’s water bottle. Cucumbers, oranges, grapes — they’re all hydrating snacks. Even popsicles (the real fruit kind) count. Just check the sugar label.
And yes, milk and 100% juice are fine. But limit juice to one small cup a day. You don’t want them mainlining sugar.
Here’s the bottom line: 7 to 8 cups of total fluid per day. That’s it. No need to obsess. If their pee is a light yellow or clear, you’re winning. If it’s dark, play the “drink more” game.
And remember — you’re their role model. If you’re guzzling soda, they’ll want soda. Sip water yourself. Make it look cool. Exaggerate a little: “Ahhh, this water is AMAZING!” They’ll roll their eyes, but they’ll also drink theirs.
So go ahead, pour yourself a glass too. You deserve it. Raising a twelve-year-old is basically a marathon — and marathons need hydration.
