Second—and this is my favorite—just call the store. I know, I know, talking to humans is scary. But the staff there are famously nice. They will say, “Oh yes, we’re open 10:00 until 17:00, darling.” You’ll feel instantly soothed.
Third, check Google Maps. Just type in your local John Lewis on a Bank Holiday Monday morning. Google is surprisingly good at telling you if a giant department store is actually letting people in, or if it’s a ghost town of empty escalators.
A quick note on the smaller ones
Now, a twist! John Lewis has “At Home” shops and little food halls. Sometimes, these smaller branches follow different rules.
