Maidenhead has top-rated state schools and a few posh private ones. St. Piran’s is a pre-prep that’s so tiny, the headteacher probably knows every child’s birthday. And Newlands Girls’ School is consistently outstanding. If you’re moving with kids, you’re in luck. Just don’t mention the catchment areas—those are fiercely guarded like the Crown Jewels.
The Green Space Is Ridiculous
You can’t throw a frisbee without hitting a park. Kidwells Park has a bandstand where old men play brass instruments on Sundays. Ray Mill Island is an actual island with a play area and wild deer. Yes, deer. On an island. In a town.
And Taplow Lake? It’s a giant flooded gravel pit where people windsurf. On a Tuesday afternoon, you’ll see a 50-year-old banker in a wetsuit pretending he’s in Hawaii. It’s beautiful and ridiculous.
