Why are we making a big deal about a supermarket opening? Because Boxing Day is the unsung hero of December. It’s that magical, chaotic day when you can swap Santa hats for sensible walking boots, and leftover ham for a proper walk in the park. But what if you run out of milk? Or those fancy cheese straws? Disaster!
Having Morrisons open gives you permission to be spontaneous. You can wake up, decide you want a full fry-up for breakfast (no judgment here), and actually get the eggs. It turns a potentially boring day of sitting in your pajamas into a fun, low-stakes adventure. Plus, the post-Christmas vibe in a shop is delightfully weird—everyone is glazed over, smiling, and united in their quest for reduced-price mince pies.
The Tactical Boxing Day Shop
Now, let’s get tactical. You don’t want to waltz in at 2pm to find the shelves looking like a zombie apocalypse just hit the biscuit aisle. Pro tip: Go early-ish, but not too early. Aim for around 10:30am. You’ll beat the true scavengers hunting for the last of the Lindor truffles, but you’ll have missed the hangry morning rush.
What should you be looking for? This is where the fun really starts. Boxing Day is famous for clearance sales on Christmas foods. You’re not just buying milk; you’re scoring a bargain on 80%-off chocolate logs. Treat yourself to a box of panettone you don’t need. It’s practically a sport, and you’re an Olympic hopeful.
Also, remember: Morrisons is your gateway to post-Christmas sanity. Need fresh vegetables for a Boxing Day bubble and squeak? They’ve got you. Desperate for a magazine and a bottle of prosecco to survive the in-laws? That is a perfectly valid mission. You are a hero of your own home, and Morrisons is your supply base.
