Oh, you thought we’d forget? Self-rising flour usually contains gluten. So if you have celiac disease or a sensitivity, this is a big nope. But gluten-free self-rising flours exist (made from rice, sorghum, etc.).
For everyone else? Gluten is not the enemy. It’s just a protein that holds your bread together. Don’t believe the hype unless you have a medical reason to avoid it.
Bottom line: unless you’re eating self-rising flour by the spoonful (please don’t), it’s perfectly fine in a balanced diet. It’s flour, not a cheat code to wellness or disaster.
