My neighbor, Sarah, once drove to three different post offices on Easter Monday, convinced one would be open “just for a few hours.” Spoiler: nope. She ended up mailing her sister’s gift on Tuesday, with an embarrassed note that read, “The rabbit ate the calendar.” We laughed about it over leftover carrot cake.
Is the Post Office Open on the Monday After Easter?
Then there’s Tom, the dad down the street, who needed to send a tax extension form on Easter Monday. He panicked so hard he almost used a carrier pigeon. In the end, he found a 24-hour self-service kiosk outside a main post office—they’re like vending machines for stamps and small packages. That kiosk saved his sanity (and his credit score).
So, what’s the golden rule for next year?
Check your calendar before the weekend starts. Seriously. Treat Easter Monday like a bank holiday: assume nothing is open until proven otherwise. If you’re a pro, you’ll buy stamps on the Friday before, because Good Friday is usually a regular mail day. That way, Easter Monday becomes a guilt-free day to binge-watch chocolate-themed movies.
Need to send something urgent? Please, for your own peace of mind, use an overnight service by Saturday. Or—and this is my favorite hack—just write a heartfelt note and take a photo of it. Email it. Digital love never takes a holiday.
