Mosquitoes are drawn to carbon dioxide (your breath), sweat, and dark clothing. So if you’re camping or sitting outside, cover your face with a hat and avoid being a panting, sweaty target. Use a mosquito repellent that’s safe for your face—think picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus. Spritz it on your hands, then pat it around your eye area (not on the eyelid itself!).
Or, you know, just always carry a tiny fan. Mosquitoes hate wind. They’re lazy aerialists. A strong breeze is their kryptonite. And if you see one hovering near your eye, swat it—just gently, with the back of your hand. No one needs a mosquito exploding inside their eyelid. That’s a whole other horror story.
Remember: You’re Not Alone
Everyone has been there. It’s a rite of passage, like stepping on Lego or spilling coffee on your white shirt. Your eye will look weird for a day, and then it will go back to normal. You’ll laugh about it later. Right now, though? It totally sucks, and I’m giving you a virtual ice pack.
So go grab some cold water, take a deep breath, and try not to look at yourself in the mirror for a bit. You’re still beautiful—just piratically swollen. And honestly? That’s kind of a flex.
