We all have a “this time next year” moment. Maybe it’s the dream of selling your house for a profit, or finally paying off the car loan. For Del Boy, it was always about the big score.
The truth is, most of us never get that big score. We get a pay rise, or a tax rebate, and we call it a win. But the hangover from the dream? That’s pure Trotters.
We wake up on a Monday morning, stare at the rain, and think, “Right, maybe I’ll just watch the telly and see if that job interview calls back.” It’s a beautiful, chaotic, and utterly human way to live.
A Toast to the Lovely Jubbly
So, if Del and Rodney could see us now, they’d probably raise a glass of cheap lager from the Nags Head. They’d see us scrolling through our phones, buying things we don’t need, and trying to talk our way out of parking tickets.
They’d recognise the scrappiness. They’d recognise the hope. And they’d probably say, “You’re alright, mate. You’re doing just fine. Just don’t fall through the bar.”
And we’d nod, half-smile, and go back to sorting that pile of junk in the corner. Because deep down, we’re all just trying to be millionaires by the end of the week. Lovely jubbly.
