Don't worry, you aren't stranded in the wilderness. Edinburgh is packed with grocery stores. There’s a Waitrose on the posh side and a Lidl for the budget-savvy. You can buy haggis, tatties, and neeps to cook yourself—if you’re feeling brave.
Fancy a picnic in the Meadows? Grab a baguette and some cheese from a little deli. It took me three days to figure out where the butter was in one co-op, but that’s on my navigation skills. You’ll be fine, I promise.
And here’s a secret: many self-catering places leave a little welcome pack. Tea bags, a pint of milk, maybe some shortbread. It feels like a hug from a stranger. A delicious, buttery hug.
Location, location, parking!
Most flats are right in the thick of it. Right next to the Grassmarket, or high up on the Royal Mile. You can stumble out the door and be at a pub in 30 seconds flat. Literally, watch your step on the cobbles.

Now, for the love of all that is holy, do not bring a car unless you have to. Parking in Edinburgh is a nightmare. It’s a game of “find a space” where everyone loses. Seriously, the fairies who design cities clearly hate drivers here.
If you must drive, book a flat with a dedicated parking spot. It costs extra, but so does your sanity. Trust me. I once spent an hour crying in a tiny car park near Holyrood. It wasn't pretty.
