Here’s the best part: whether you call him Anton Du Beke or Anton Paul Beke, the core of the man is exactly the same. He’s still the same witty, talented dancer from Kent who worked his way up from humble beginnings. The name changed, but his genuine love for dance and people never did.
So, the “real” name is simply a technicality. His true identity is the joy he brings to the ballroom floor and the kindness he shows his partners. That’s the part you can’t fake, and that’s the part that makes him a beloved icon. A name is just a label; your spirit is the performance.

Make Your Own Life More Fun
Let this be your little nudge to add some “Du” to your own life. Find a piece of your story you can tweak—a room in your house you can redecorate, a skill you can learn, or a nickname you can adopt. It doesn’t have to be dramatic; it just has to make you smile.
Think of it as curating your own personal brand. Anton didn’t lie about who he was; he simply presented the most compelling version of himself. You can do that, too, without changing your heart. Life is too short for boring names, boring routines, or boring dreams.
So, the next time you hear that iconic voice say, “It’s a foxtrot,” remember the story behind the name. Remember that a simple Kentish boy decided to become a star, one elegant syllable at a time. It’s a charming, silly, and deeply human thing to do.
