Okay, parenting is brutal. But I think there’s a more psychologically destructive job out there. I’m talking about the person who has to taste test pet food for quality control. Yes, that’s a real job. You sit in a room, eat a spoonful of “Beef & Gravy” that is definitely not beef, and write a report.
You know what’s worse? Being the person who has to smell new products at a chemical company. There are professional “odor judges” who sniff deodorant and garbage bags for a living. Their job is to figure out if your trash bags smell like “mountain breeze” or “rotten fish.” They literally have to compare the aroma of a landfill to a spring meadow. What do you put on your resume? “Nose: Expert. Friends: None.”
Then there’s the person who tests water slides. Sounds fun, right? Actually, they have to slide down a dry slide in overalls to measure friction, hitting the bottom at 30 mph with a spine-compressing thud. They do it 30 times a day. It’s just back injuries and soggy crotches.
