Forget the complicated maths with moons and equinoxes. In 2026, Easter Sunday in the UK falls on Sunday, 5th April. That’s right—April the fifth, not a rogue March date that makes you dig out your woolly coat again. This means Good Friday lands on 3rd April, and Easter Monday on 6th April. It’s a sensible, middle-of-spring date, like that friend who always shows up exactly on time, not too early and not brilliantly late.
Why does this matter? Because it’s the difference between a chilly egg hunt in the drizzle and a semi-warm one where you can actually feel your fingers. In 2026, you’ve got a fighting chance of the daffodils actually being out, not just stubborn green shoots pretending. Your Easter bonnet won’t get blown into next Tuesday, and the kids can hunt for chocolate eggs without looking like drowned rats.
A Brief, Painless Explanation (You’ll Survive This)
So, how does the Church decide? It’s based on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox. Honestly, it sounds like a game show rule. The full moon in question falls on 2nd April 2026, which is a Thursday. The following Sunday is 5th April, and boom—Easter. It’s like the moon is the drum roll, and Easter is the punchline.
If you’re having a brain freeze, just remember: full moon on Thursday, Easter on Sunday. That’s your party trick for the pub quiz. You won’t look like a genius, but you’ll look smug, and that’s half the battle.
