Think about it: peanuts are a bean that hides underground, traveled the globe by ship, saved soldiers from hunger, and became a comfort food enjoyed on every continent. It’s a scrappy, humble food with a huge history. It doesn’t need a crown. It just needs a little salt and a crunchy bite.
Next time you crack open a shell, remember: you’re holding a piece of ancient South America. You’re holding a survivor. You’re holding a geocarpic legume that faked being a nut for centuries. That’s hilarious. That’s amazing. And that’s why peanuts are the greatest snack on Earth.
Now go eat a handful. You earned it.
