From 1580 to 1640, Spain and Portugal were actually one country. I know, right? For sixty years, the Iberian Union meant you could buy olive oil and port wine from the same king. It ended because Portugal got tired of being treated like the weird cousin and rebelled, using a giant wooden wall (not a horse) to restore its independence. Today, they celebrate December 1st as Restoration of Independence Day. They literally throw cake at the problem.
