Without Stabler, SVU entered a new era. Det. Nick Amaro was brought in to fill the void, but fans never really forgave the network. The phrase “Where’s Stabler?” became a running joke in online forums for years.
The departure turned into a pop culture touchstone. It’s the TV equivalent of “Why did Ross and Rachel break up?” but with more guns and less Central Perk. Even Jimmy Fallon has done sketches about the Stabler-shaped hole in the show.
