Here’s the brutal, awkward truth: we kind of like it. Complaining about the cold is our national sport. It gives us an identity. We bond over it. “Cold enough for ya?” is practically a greeting.
We’ve turned shivering into a lifestyle. We wear hoodies in July. We queue for ice cream when it’s 8°C. And we’ve perfected the art of looking miserable while saying, “Lovely day, innit?” with a straight face.
So, why is it so cold in the UK? Because the universe decided we deserved it, and we accepted the challenge. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go boil the kettle for the fourth time today. It’s our only reliable heater.
Stay warm—or at least, stay British about it.
