Unplug everything first. Seriously—please unplug the phone from the wall. We want sparks of joy, not sparks of shock. Now, strip off about an inch of the outer jacket of your phone cable, and carefully expose the red and green wires.
Strip about half an inch of insulation from each wire. Twist the copper strands gently so they don’t fray—like braiding a tiny, electrical friendship bracelet. Next, connect them to the jack. Most jacks have labeled screws: red goes to “R,” green to “G” or “T.” Tighten firmly, but don’t break the screw.
If you’re using a modular plug (the clear plastic kind), carefully slide the wires into the little grooves: red in pin 2, green in pin 3. Crimp it down with your crimper until you hear a satisfying click. That’s the sound of success!
