You might be thinking, “Who cares? It’s a holiday! Relax!” And you’d be right—usually. But life has a wicked sense of humour. You suddenly realise your passport needs a photo for an emergency. Or your grandmother’s pension cheque must be paid in on Tuesday, or it bounces.
Or, like me, you find that the only way to send your mum’s present in time is to specifically use a service that requires a physical counter. The universe loves that particular kind of cruelty. “Ah, you have a plan? Watch this.”
A Quick Reality Check (For Your Sanity)
Here’s my hard-won advice: Always check online first. I mean always. Do not rely on your memory from three years ago. The Royal Mail website is your oracle. But even the oracle lies sometimes. Call the branch directly.
If they answer on a Bank Holiday, you’ve won the lottery. If you get a recorded message saying “Our opening hours are every third Tuesday of a blue moon,” you know you’re out of luck. Don’t be a hero. Just go buy a nice digital card and send it via email.
